Hello! My name is Groa.

I’m an icelandic and a single mother of 5.

I’m a trained pianoplayer/teacher and choir director.

I also play the organ in church.

I live in Reykjavik, the capial of Iceland.

I love (obviously) music, my children and life itself.

I love cooking and having people around me.

Here is almost a full recording of a song from a concert where I’m playing the piano:

Since being alone, providing for five kids, I’ve often had to work long hours – even 7 days (or almost 8 days!) a week all year.

My oldest son, Siggi is 31 years old now.

He’s a professional musician, plays the Hammond organ in number of bands, but also plays guitar and bass.

He composes songs and lyrics, arranges music and records in a studeo called Hjóðriti.

His most famous band is Hjálmar, which is Icelands only reggae band.

Last year he recorded a solo CD with some old songs. With “oldies” feeling in the studeo, with everyone dressed up, alowing smoking in the studeo, and coffee and cakes during breaks, and recording with only one microphone the CD is just wonderful to listen to.

One of  Siggi’s bands is Senuþjófarnir who accompany Megas on concerts and CD’s.

And then there is the band Baggalútur where Siggi plays the bass.

My next son is also a proffesional musician.

He’s 22 years old and plays the bass and double bass in Hjaltalin.

He also plays guitar, saxophone and keyboard and has a wonderful singing voice. He has sang in the famous choir Hamrahlíðarkórinn (The collegechoir of Hamrahlid).

His band is on concert tours all the time, and have once come to the US but mostly they travel in Europe. They performed at the Reykjavik Art Festival in may 2009 with a chamber orcestra, conducted by Daniel Bjarnason.

My number three son is living in the country working with horses. He puts shoes on them

But he has a beautyful singing voice and joined the male choir last january singing his heart out.

Then there is the younest son, Gylfi. He will be starting his last year in elementary shcool in august. He has a love for animals and owns two horses and a dog named Bassi.

My younest child is a girl named Harpa Sól. She is 12 going on 13 in november. Noone knows where her interrests are at this time, but she started pianolessons last autumn and sings in a choir. She also has love for animals and shares Bassi with her brother. She also rides horses and hopefully she will own one soon.

Coming to an age that requiers taking extra care of the body, I’m working my way in becoming an internet-business-woman. Does’nt that sound good ?
